Our supernatural Skyline :Between Gods And Ghosts
Singaporeans have a unique sense of the supernatural that blends the beliefs of several races. The focus of this series is to trace some of the more prominent threads that make up this island’s complex supernatural weave. We will look at some early supernatural beliefs on this island and consider the gods and the ghosts (and the countless spirits in between) that filled the imaginations of our forefathers, and see how they have developed into the supernatural skyline that we see today. In this first book of the series, we explore the Chinese supernatural beliefs, on top of giving you some spooky local ghost stories. From Chinese immortals and demons, fairies and fox spirits, we take you through some rich cultural beliefs and heritage left behind by our Chinese forefathers. This book also offers valuable insights on ghosts and the wider supernatural, and the way they are represented. Walk through the haunted schools and hotels with us, and meet our National Service ghosts. As you journey through this book, you will find yourself peering into these part-open doorways of the supernatual. However, each time you step into one of these rooms, remember not to let the door shut behind you. You’ve seen enough horror films to know what happens if you let the door shut behind you. Keep the corridor in sight – that’s where the rest of us are. And now, welcome to Singapore
